Origin Story
My name is Elaine Nguyen and I am a mother to three - 2 earth babies (Olivia and Sienne) and 1 angel baby (Lando). April 2024 was when my whole world changed. A healthy pregnancy with no complications ended with my secondborn son, Lando, born sleeping at 35 weeks gestation. We had just finished his nursery and was ready for his arrival when we learned the shocking news of our baby no longer having a heartbeat.
The moment I stepped foot into triage at labor and delivery to the moment I stepped out of the hospital with a white box instead of my son - my foundation shattered and I knew my life would never look the same.
The village of mothers I was a part of did not include mothers who looked like me. Aching, missing, longing, and surviving the unthinkable - burying your baby and hoping to see them again one day. These were far from the common postpartum experiences.
It wasn’t until one day I was sobbing while visiting my son at the cemetery that I looked out and realized there were at least 800 other babies/children buried with my son. Those babies’ moms get it. Those moms would understand my version of motherhood. But where are they?
That’s when I received the biggest nudge from God and Lando that a community had to exist to hold, support, and honor all types of birth outcomes, and all versions of motherhood.
